How You Can Go Zero Waste at Home

January 16, 2020Archived, General Articles, LifestyleBailey Helton

How to cut down on the waste that your household produces.

Every day, you and your family produce a considerable amount of waste.  Obviously, this places a considerable strain on the environment.  This is why it’s so important for you to find ways to cut back on the amount of waste and pollution that your household creates.  If you want to be more environmentally-friendly, then try going zero waste.

What is Zero Waste?

Zero waste is a movement that challenges us to minimize the amount of waste that we produce.  To cut down on our waste production, we need to rethink what we buy and how we use things.  While this seems like a major lifestyle change, it’s important to understand that the zero waste movement doesn’t mean eliminating all household waste completely.  Instead, it’s about becoming conscious of the amount of unnecessary waste that you produce and finding creative solutions to address it.

Tips for Going Zero Waste

As a homeowner, there are many things that you can do to reduce the amount of waste that your household produces.  For instance, you can try out the following suggestions:

  • Reduce the amount of plastic food waste that you produce by not buying packaged foods. If you do need to buy packaged food items, then buy in bulk, so you get more product for less packaging.
  • Make your own cleaning products to avoid adding harmful chemicals and toxins to the environment.
  • Repurpose food waste by composting it and using it as fertilizer.
  • Buy sustainable food and other consumer products whenever possible.

These are some of the things that you can do to make your household zero waste.  Are you looking for assistance with your homeowners insurance?  If so, then contact the experts at Phocus Insurance in Phoenix, Arizona.  Our dedicated team is eager to assist you with all your coverage needs today.
