Most homeowners insurance policies do cover you for damage to your house from fallen trees. Not only is the damage to your home covered, but any resulting damage to the contents of your home is also covered. Even a detached garage is covered. But that’s the short answer. There are exceptions, and there are dollar limits to the coverage.
Any structure on your property is usually covered under a standard policy. And damage to the tree, itself, is also usually covered, for things such as damage from automobiles, or theft or criminal mischief. Even a lightening strike is usually covered for the trees as well as for your house.
Exceptions are cases where the tree may have been grown for some specific business interest, in which case a business policy would be required. Also sometimes excluded is the removal of debris if the tree fell on your property without actually striking a structure. But even this can be covered if the debris blocks access to walkways or driveways, especially if handicap-access capabilities are involved.
