Halloween Safety Tips for a Safe and Spooky Night

October 24, 2014General ArticlesBailey Helton

Halloween is almost here! While you are getting your costume and jack o’ lantern ready for all of your holiday festivities, it is also important to stay safe. Keep these Halloween safety tips in mind this year to ensure that everyone has a fun and safe holiday.

  • If you are driving on Halloween night, make sure to always stay alert and avoid distractions while behind the wheel. Children are very excited and can dart out into the street without any warning.
  • Always follow all traffic laws and traffic lights when crossing the street. Also, only cross the street on designated crosswalks.
  • Do not allow children under the age of 12 to go trick or treating alone. Make sure they always have proper adult supervision.
  • If you have older children that are trick or treating with a group of friends, plan a route before they go out on familiar neighborhoods. Set a strict curfew on when they need to be home.
  • Make sure your children have a delicious, filling dinner before they head out to go trick or treating to cut down on the amount of candy they snack on.
  • Before allowing your children to enjoy any candy, inspect each piece and throw out any that is open or looks like it has been tampered with.
  • Do not allow small children to carve their own pumpkins. Instead, let them be creative and decorate the pumpkin with markers or paint. If they insist on having a carved pumpkin, have them draw a face and you can carve it yourself.
  • If you are using a candle to light your jack o’ lantern, make sure to keep it away from all flammable items, such as curtains or furniture.
