Is My Babysitter Covered to Drive my Car?

September 2, 2013General ArticlesBailey Helton

Everyone knows it’s important to have auto insurance, but coverage can vary quite a bit from policy to policy. Most states require some sort of basic liability insurance, but that doesn’t cover much. Auto lenders will usually require comprehensive insurance, because it protects them. But what’s really important, is who you need covered. Even if your auto insurance contains the words “comprehensive” or “complete,” you still need to ask yourself the question, “Who is covered under my auto insurance policy?”

If you need to be able to lend your car to whomever you want and know you’re insured, you will need to ask your insurance agent specifically if you have that coverage. If you have a single reliable babysitter, they may be able to be added to your policy as an occasional driver. There’s a lot of other things that could affect rates and coverage as well, such as the age of the extra driver, and their driving record.

But getting auto insurance, or updating an existing policy also takes some frugal comparison shopping, and Phocus Companies of Phoenix, AZ has done an excellent job in helping people do that for their auto insurance and other insurance needs for the past 25 years. While it’s possible you could wind up simply upgrading your existing policy, it is important to get a variety of quotes from competitors in order to give yourself the necessary bargaining tools to get the best coverage at the best price. To learn more about how to find the right auto insurance policy for your needs, contact Phocus Companies today.
