Did you just recently finish filing your 2013 taxes, after getting a personal tax extension for this year? If you waited until the last minute and found yourself scrambling to file on time, do not make the same mistakes again. Even though it is not even November yet, it is time to start preparing for tax season. Here are some steps you can take now, to ensure that you are prepared for filing in 2014.
Steps to Take Now
As you start receiving end-of-year statements in the mail, put them all in a single file. At this point in time, you should not worry about sorting the necessary papers from the unnecessary ones. Instead, focus on gathering all the possibly relevant papers that you receive in one place.
When gathering paperwork, remember that some statements may come in an electronic form. These should either be put in a folder on your computer, or printed out and filed with the other papers.
Find an Accountant
Now is also the time to start looking for a tax professional who does personal taxes. If you live in Arizona and do not have an accountant, consider talking to an agent at Phocus Companies. They have been helping Arizona residents file their taxes for 25 years.
