Establishing a Culture of Learning at Your Business

April 23, 2020Archived, Commercial InsuranceBailey Helton

Support employee learning at your company.

Unfortunately, businesses often devalue learning and development in favor of promoting productivity and efficiency.  However, creating a culture of learning at your company can have major benefits.  For instance, it can help you attract top talent, retain the best employees, and promote ongoing business growth.  But how can you develop a culture of learning at your business?  Here are some suggestions to try.

  • Treat Mistakes as Learning Opportunities

Too often, managers and business owners treat mistakes as shameful, punishable events.  Employees become so worried about making mistakes that they shy away from taking risks and exploring new opportunities.  Rather than looking down on mistakes, you should treat them as opportunities for growth.  By keeping an open mind and treating mistakes as necessary steps in an employee’s development, you can empower your staff to be creative, experimental, and risk-taking.

  • Celebrate Growth

Oftentimes, businesses celebrate monetary achievements.  For instance, they celebrate the closing of a major deal, the completion of a big project, or the meeting of a sales goal.  While acknowledging achievements is an important part of keeping your staff motivated and happy, you should not simply focus on financial achievements.  You should also recognize and celebrate your employees’ growth and improvement.  When your employees are singled out for their individual accomplishments, they will feel appreciated, motivated, and more willing to explore opportunities for advancement.

  • Be a Mentor

As a business owner, you are in a position of authority.  This can be intimidating for new employees.  However, you have a wealth of knowledge and experience that you can use to help your new hires advance.  This is why you should make an effort to become a mentor to your young staff.  By being directly involved in the growth and development of your employees, you can keep them loyal to your company and encourage them to take on more responsibilities.

These are some of the things that you can do to create a culture of learning at your workplace.  Want another way to set your company up for success?  Then make sure you have the right commercial insurance in place.  For assistance with all your coverage needs, contact the experts at Phocus Insurance in Phoenix, Arizona, today.
