Common Driving Distractions You Need to Stop, NOW!

October 14, 2013General ArticlesBailey Helton

While many auto accidents are caused by such things as drunk drivers or failed brakes, the main cause for most auto accidents is a distracted driver. Either they’re doing something behind the wheel besides driving, they’re not paying attention or something happens to attract their attention elsewhere, common driving distractions cause more accidents per year than any other cause.

Here are some safe driving practices you can put in place to hopefully prevent an accident in your future:

– NO TEXTING! Everyone has seen the commercials on TV. Texting and driving is tantamount to committing suicide. Your eyes are off the road, your attention is on your phone and the next thing you know, your car is wrapped around a phone pole or someone else. Don’t do it.

– No phone calls. Even hands-free phone systems are distracting. Trying to drive and hold a phone conversation can lead to disaster. Turn off your phone and make calls when you’ve arrived at a destination.

– Don’t Mess With The Radio – Again, this takes your eyes off the road in situations where a split second can be a life or death decision.

Anything that takes your eyes and your concentration off of the cars and situations around you can lead directly to a wreck. Even minor accidents can have a major impact on your auto insurance, although working with great agents like those at Phocus Companies in the Phoenix, AZ area can give you great ways to make sure your auto insurance rates are the best available. Stay attentive and stay safe by keeping your eyes, and your mind, on your driving.
